Bass
With water temperatures nearly reaching 70, Bass fishing has slowed down considerably. Nonetheless, if you pick your spots correctly and are willing to put in the time, there are fish to be found. Beach fishermen have had good luck on both the North and South shores at night. Dionis and Eel Point have produced the most fish on the North Shore, while Miacomet has been the best spot on the South side. When fishing on the North Shore use a dark-colored Bomber or Slug-Go. Pencil Poppers or other surface lures work best on the South side, where there is more structure in the water. Boat fishermen continue to have success inside the harbor as well as off the Great Point Rip. When fishing off Great Point remember to work the edges using some sort of a surface lure or popper. Cotton Cordell or Bomber Pencil Poppers work well.
Blues
Bluefish are everywhere. Both beach and boat fishermen have had phenomenal success all around the island. Bigger Blues in the 6-10 pound range are being taken all along the South Shore between Miacomet and Tom Nevers, while the smaller ones in the 3-6 pound range can be found along the North Shore. Boat fishermen have also had good success out on Old Man Shoal as well is in the Chord of the Bay and the Galls. As the summer heats up, these fish are becoming more and more aggressive and will take just about any lure thrown in their direction. Using surface lures such as Ballistic Missiles or Hopkins is more fun, as you will be able to watch the fish explode on your lure.
