Offshore Fishing Report

Good Morning Fishermen - June 28th, 2010

Some very good fishing was had this weekend and with July 4th coming up we hope that you all will make sure to get out there and enjoy it. While this June has found many fishermen frustrated and confused, the month has ended up well with many having positive reports. We are also fortunate that while the Bass have not proven to be incredibly abundant in the harbor and near shore, that there are still fish around and many have been fortunate to experience tight lines,

Beach:
Beach Fishermen continue to come into the shop and speak about great bass being caught out of Miacomet Rip. I have heard of two 40 + inch fish caught out of there this week. Traditional bombers have worked, as has bait, but the two hottest lures have been big Gibbs pencil poppers and the Magic Swimmer.

Consistent action has been reported at Tom Nevers, and Low Beach along the South Shore.

The harbor exploded yesterday morning with one of our great employees, Adam Fasci, landing 8 keepers between 1st and 2nd during the last few hours of the west tide (outgoing.) Adam was having some luck with sluggos but when he moved to a Kona Popper the fish exploded. For those of us who love furious top water action, it is worth trying these lures out.

On the opposite side of Coatue, Schoolie stripers are still being caught in the surf. It seems as if these are best caught on flies, but small bombers and sluggos have worked as well.

Fish are being picked out of the trough between Dionis and that first sandbar as well on the north Shore.

I heard some great reports from the Sankaty Beack Club at night time.

*** Important points to remember is that all the fishermen who have submitted these great reports were willing to put the hours in to find the fish. Respect the other fishermen when you encounter them, do not encroach and most importantly if you want a bent rod, make sure to not just go for 20 minutes, but put the time in yourself!

Boat:
Great Point is just starting to produce. While there are not an overwhelming amount of fish, bluefish are present and there are some Bass if you fish on the East tide and work the knuckles. The hope is that a good North wind might blow some of the cold offshore water in for a quick Bass Blitz at the point. We will see.

The South Shore is the old true and tested place for Bluefish right now. Off the airport has yet to become "red hot" but it is very consistent.

The Western Edges are still very inconsistent, although if you are willing to work hard enough there are some fish out there.

Coatue, as mentioned above is loaded with small blues that are perfect for kids.

The Jetties is producing Scup and the Wreck black Sea Bass.

Sankaty has been inconsistent for Bass but there are some there.

The Best Bass Fishing has been the Eastern Rips. These rips have mid 50's water temps and have been very productive, although I would not recommend straying that far from land unless you have experience or you are with someone with experience.

Tight Lines,
Capt. Corey
